For purposes of evaluating our software, Crosse-Over Designs makes available to qualified companies, a FREE downloadable demo version of the Time Card module.  To download the demo program you will be require to enter a password.  Please contact us by telephone or email to receive a password to allow you to continue with the download of the demo software.

The demo program is designed to run on Windows 95 and Windows 98 computers.  (The live version of the software is compatible with any Windows version from Windows 95 to Windows XP.)

It would be a good idea to print these instructions now as you begin the download and installation process. After you have downloaded the demo software, you can then follow these printed instructions to complete the installation of the demo.

There are two steps involved: creating the demo disk, and installing the demo on your hard disk.

Creating the Demo Disk

Place a blank, formatted diskette in the A: drive of your computer.  Click on the link below to begin the download of the demo software.  The download file TCDEMO.EXE is 697,853 bytes in size. You will be asked for a user name and password. Qualified rehabilitation facilities can receive this logon free of charge by contacting us.

Click here to download the Time Card Demo.

When prompted, you should select to save this file on the A: drive and keep the file name of TCDEMO.

After the file has been saved, go back to your Windows Desktop (the main Windows screen) and select My Computer.  Next, select the Floppy (A:).  When you open the A: drive you should see the TCDEMO file which you just saved in the previous step.  Double-click on the TCDEMO file.  This file is a self-extracting ZIP archive.  After you double-click on the file, a window will appear showing the expansion of the archive on the A: drive. On most systems the window will remain open, but show the message "Finished" on the top line when it is done. After the archive is finished expanding, the creation of the installation demo disk is complete.  You can now use the floppy disk to install the demo on any Windows 95 or Windows 98 computer you desire. You may now close any open Windows on your computer.

Installing the Demo On Your Computer

The demo program is a MSDOS application.  It will not effect your Window's registry or any other programs on your system. The installation of the demo disk is best performed from a MSDOS prompt.  To get to a MSDOS prompt, go to your Windows Start Button (lower left), select Programs, and select MSDOS Prompt.  This will generally leave you at a C:\WINDOWS prompt.

Insert the demo disk you created above into your floppy disk drive, and log onto the floppy drive by entering A:<enter>.

From the A:> prompt, enter the command: XINSTALL  C: where C: represents the desired hard drive where you wish to install the demo system.  You should use the drive letter and a colon (:).

The installation process will create the \XODEMO sub-directory on your hard drive, and copy the demo programs into place. After the installation is completed, the installation program will start the demo program. The floppy disk does not have to be used once the demo is installed on your hard disk.

Removal of the Demo System

When you have finished using the demo system and wish to remove it from your hard drive, simply log onto the root directory of your hard drive. To get to your root directory, use the Windows Start | Programs| MSDOS Prompt to get to the C:\Windows directory.  Log onto the desired drive (if other than C:) by entering the drive letter x:<enter>.  Make sure you are at the root directory by entering:  CD  \<enter>

To remove the demo, enter the command: XOREMOVE

This will remove all the demo programs and data from your hard disk and free up disk space.

Starting the Demo Program

The demo program automatically loads after the installation is completed, but once the installation has been completed, you do not have to use the demo floppy disk. To start the demo program, go to the MSDOS prompt as directed above, and log onto the root directory of the hard disk where the demo is installed, and enter: XODEMO

If you know how to create a short-cut on your desktop, you can create a short-cut that will start the demo program directly from your Windows desktop. (Right-click on a free area of your Windows desktop, select New, Shortcut, and browse to the XODEMO command.  Select this command and click <Next>.)

Documentation

The documentation for the Time Card system is also available for download and printing from our website.  The documentation file is NOT password protected.  It is provided in Microsoft Word format and can be viewed or printed as desired.

Getting Around the Demo

The new Time Card System is written to perform like a standard Open Systems application. As such, the use of the keyboard is just like any other Open Systems application. Here is a brief summary of how to get around.

At a Menu

When at a menu, you can use the up or down arrows to move to the desired menu item. Press <enter> to select a highlighted menu item. Use the <Page Up> key to move back to a prior menu. Use the F7 key to exit the demo program.

Inside a Program

When in a program you may use any of the following.

Up or Down Arrows are used to move to the previous or the next data field on the screen. Note that even if the fields are left or right of each other, the left and right arrows are not used to move from one field to the next, the program only recognizes up or down.

<Page Up> Will take you to the top of the data entry screen.

<Page Down> Is an important key used to save each data screen to the disk. After entering a screen of data, you use <Page Down> to save the data on the disk.

F2 when the word Inquiry is present on the bottom right of the data entry screen, it indicates that you are in a keyed field, and can use the F2 key to call up a look-up window of the available keys. This is a very valuable function. Please try it!

F3 can be used to delete the record on the screen from the file.

F5 can be used to abandon the entry screen that you are currently working on. If you get part way through an entry screen and decide you want to start over, use F5.

F6 when the word Maint is present on the bottom right of the data entry screen, it indicates that you are in a keyed field, and can use the F6 key to maintain records in this file on the fly. This is a great time-saving feature.

F7 is used to exit the program and return to the last menu. (But remember, at the menu use the <Page Up> to move back in the menu screens.)

Inside an Inquiry Window

When you are inside an inquiry window that you brought up by pressing F2, the following keys perform the described actions.

Up and Down Arrows Move the selection pointer up or down one line at a time.

<Page Up> and <Page Down> Move the selection pointer a page up or down.

<Insert> allows you to enter a desired key or partial key to jump to within the file.

<End> goes to the last key in the file.

<Enter> Selects the key that is currently at the pointer.

F7 Exits the inquiry window without making a selection.

Looking Up Employees by Name

If you are in the inquiry window of employee IDs, you can press the letter N to switch the window to an inquiry by Name. Pressing the <spacebar> sets the inquiry back to be in order of the ID.

Employee IDs and Operation IDs

The time card system can use alpha-numeric IDs. However, the Employee IDs and Operation IDs have been set to be all numeric in this demo.

When entering an employee ID, use a three character numeric ID filled with leading zeros. For example, employee number 1 has an ID of 001, employee 11 has an ID of 011, etc.

When entering Operation IDs, enter up to a six digit number for the ID.

In the demo, do not use letters in any of the IDs. In a live system, the IDs can be set alpha-numeric if desired.

Dates

The demo system is set to use dates through the year 1999.  As a convenience, after you enter the demo program at the main menu press the F6 key and enter a date of 12/15/99.  This will set the date in the demo to be the selected date but it will not effect your computer date.

Printer Selection

The demo program has been configured to print to a printer that is directly connected to the computer that is running the demo.  When you print a report, you can choose between two printers: LP or P1.  Select LP if you have a laser printer, and select P1 if you have a dotmatrix printer.

Knowing the above key commands will allow you to easily experiment with the demo software.  You can add employees, add operations, enter transactions, print transactions, and really experience the entire process.  Our system is designed for easy entry and clear reporting of the results.

Call us if you have any questions about installing the demo or if we can provide further information about our products and services.
